História Halloween

HALLOWEEN
Halloween is a celebration of the oldest in history, originated thousands of years ago.
The Halloween we know today were influenced by many cultures over the centuries. It is a very popular party in the United States and Britain and is celebrated on October 31. They believed that witches, demons and spirits of dead people were hanging on the eve of November 1st, when they celebrated the New Year. It was the end of the season of sun and beginning of the season of cold and darkness. To protect themselves from evil spirits, the Celtic priests, called Druids, offering them things to eat and disguised themselves with masks, so that the spirits did not harm them.
This offering was made through a ritual performed in the forest, among the oaks (considered sacred trees). They lit bonfires and, while dancing around the fire, performed the animal sacrifice that was offered along with crops. At dawn the Druids gave each family a spark of that fire that she lit the fire with him which would cook. It was believed, so the house would be kept free from evil spirits. The Catholic Church has designated the 1st of November to honor all the Saints (All Saints or All Hallows). The night before All Saints Day (All Saints Day) was called Night of All Saints (All Hallows Even). The expression Night of All Saints (All Hallows Even) was shortened to Halloween.

Celebration today

On the eve of All Saints, the children make masks, each one more "terrible" than the other and leave the streets to "scare" people. Visit houses and get candy and money. They tend to stick a pumpkin-shaped human face and put lighted candles inside to give the idea of terror, witch, and some symbols of the past remain, symbolizing the time, like black cats, ghosts and skeletons represent the dead.
